The Popularity of Bacon Explained

Bacon is considered to be one of the most delicious foods in Western culture. There are several sites dedicated to this topic. There are even fan clubs. Amazingly, there are actually Bacon shoes (these are not really made out of Bacon but are rather made to look as if they have been - do a search if you do not trust my word).

This, perhaps unexpected popularity, makes me curious. Who invented bacon? How to cook bacon? Can you microwave bacon? How to make bacon? Can we do this ourselves? Which are the best bacon recipes? Is Bacon Healthy? Why do people love it so much?

Fortunately, the internet is a great place to search for resources for such information. A quick query reveals that Bacon is actually cured meat that is prepared from certain parts of a pig. There are several types of bacon which come from different areas of the pig (its belly, its side, its loins, its shoulder and even its cheeks). Furthermore, there are lots of methods of making it: it can be baked, boiled, grilled, fried, smoked, used as a ingredient in a salad and in numerous other manners. And certainly,, bacon can most definitely be microwaved (i.e. using a microwave bacon cooker), and this is an action people can do on their own.

Since Bacon is prepared from pork (although in certain countries, non-pork based bacon-like foods are also called bacon, which is in my humble opinion simply does not count), is actually forbidden for consumption for followers of Judaism and Islam. Judaism considers pigs as ‘dirty’ or ‘tainted’ creatures and as such, all meats made from their flesh are forbidden.
